Primary objective
Under the direction of the Team Leader, provide family support services to vulnerable children and their families residing in remote communities.
Work in partnership with others to provide safety and targeted support to families, provide place-based statutory services of the department
and support the work of visiting Child Protection and Youth Outreach staff. Support agency activities in relation to community education,
development and consultation activities
Context statement
The Remote Child and Family Safety Program provides place-based services in remote communities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver evidence based and culturally competent casework and case management services in line with departmental policies and procedures
to vulnerable children and their families.
2. Work collaboratively with others to enhance the safety and capacity of families and communities to care for their children and young
people.
3. Provide statutory case management services to children in stable long-term placements with kinship carers or departmental carers within
the community.
4. Demonstrate commitment to own professional development through active participation in professional supervision and required
workplace training.
5. Participate in the department’s After-hours Service (Women’s Safe House).
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association,
Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and Family
Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection).
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures, and an ability to communicate and
work constructively and sensitively with people from diverse cultures.
3. Knowledge of case planning and case management approaches including demonstrated experience in conducting strengths-based
assessments and in working in partnership with a range of other providers including Child Protection professionals to respond to the needs
of vulnerable children and their families.
4. Well-developed oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes, build and
maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
5. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain and ability to travel in 4WD or light aircraft and undertake travel including overnight stays
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the legislative and policy frameworks relevant to statutory child and family welfare practice in the NT.
2. Knowledge of family violence in remote Aboriginal communities and the impact of family violence on extended family networks.
3. Previous experience of living and/or working in a remote Aboriginal Community.

1. The remuneration package for a Child Protection Practitioner at the Professional 1 level commences at $90,432 - $103,714 (including salary
$76,377 - $87,700).
2. In addition, a Child Protection Market Allowance of $7,638 per annum applies to this position, as per Determination 1019 of 2022.
3. The selected applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check (a
criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history).

help maximise better outcomes for local children and families.
5. High level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes, build and maintain
effective internal and external working relationships.
6. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain and ability to travel in 4WD or light aircraft and undertake travel including overnight stays.
Desirable
1. Five years relevant experience including at least six months experience working with children in care.
2. Knowledge of the legislative and policy frameworks relevant to statutory child and family welfare practice in the NT.

Primary objective
Lead and supervise a team of professional and safety support staff in the delivery of integrated statutory and non-statutory welfare and safety
services to vulnerable children, families to individuals, groups residing in remote communities in accordance with relevant legislation, and
departmental policies and procedures.
Context statement
The Remote Child and Family Safety Program provides place-based services in remote communities with an integrated safety and support focus
which combines domestic, family and sexual violence responses and interventions that are flexible and dependant on community needs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Be responsible for the supervision, training and development of a team of staff involved in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare
and safety services.
2. Maintain a high level of services to department’s clients through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated best practice in
the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare and safety services.
3. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act in accordance with departmental
policies and procedures.
4. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on department’s client information and case
management systems.
5. As a member of the department’s management team, contribute to the overall management of the office, including data collection, practice
standards, workload trends, program development, community networking and consultation to achieve an integrated best practice approach
to service delivery.
6. Participate in the Agency’s After-Hours Service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association, the
Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and Family
Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) OR Graduate Certificate in
Safe Communities (Child Protection)
2. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including highly developed professional skills in conducting strength-
based assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to apply best practice principles.
3. A sound understanding of the principles and functions of supervision in statutory and non-statutory welfare work and demonstrated ability
to provide supportive, educative and administrative supervision of welfare staff.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including demonstrated skills in negotiation, conflict resolution,
teamwork and leadership.
5. Highly developed organisational and communication skills including the ability to work independently, manage time effectively and contribute
to the professional development and learning needs of colleagues through developing and delivering formal and informal training for staff.
6. Highly developed oral and written communication skills including an ability to communicate complex issues to a wide range of people and
groups.
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work constructively within culturally diverse settings, including a demonstrated knowledge and
understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures and an ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.
8. Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and an ability and willingness to undertake training in the programs computer-based data entry
system.
9. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain.

1. In the order of five consecutive years of relevant experience and that this will include at least six months experience of child protection work
and at least six months experience of working with children in care.
