About the role

We are currently seeking a highly responsible and detail-oriented Safeworking Coordinator to join our Infrastructure team. This critical role is responsible for the safe working planning, implementation, and control of safeworking activities during Signals works, ensuring the highest standards of rail safety are maintained at all times.

As the Safeworking Coordinator, you will be the central point of accountability for rail safety during maintenance works, with a strong focus on protecting the safety of all Rail Safety Workers and securing the worksite from rail traffic incursions.

This role operates on a rotating roster covering early, late and day shift, work reasonable overtime as required, and respond to after hour emergencies

Key responsibilities

  • Complete and certify Rail Safety Worksite Hazard Assessments (RSWHAs) to determine appropriate protection measures.
  • Prepare asset access plans and ensure compliance with inspection planning and MTM safeworking standards.
  • Ensure all worksite protection personnel and Rail Safety Workers (RSWs) are competent, equipped with correct PPE, and not exposed to hazards.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and communicate task-based hazards and catastrophic risks such as mobile plant interactions, electrocution, and working in the rail corridor.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors, protection personnel, signallers, train controllers, and drivers to ensure seamless coordination across the worksite.
  • Review and assess safety systems and SWMS for alignment with standards and safe practices.
  • Perform risk assessments of processes, practices, and materials to support safe and efficient delivery.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and modification of infrastructure assets, including manual labour and plant operation under supervision.
  • Immediately report injuries and high-potential incidents.
  • Support continuous improvement in safeworking by leading development activities and contributing to team efficiency and learning.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Mandatory

  • TFPC Level 3.1 or higher (including Enhanced Lookout modules)
  • Inner Suburban Unrestricted competency
  • First Aid and CPR

Preferred

  • Manual Driver’s License
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the rail or related industry

Ability to undertake work shift duties on a 24-hour 7 day a week roster and work reasonable overtime as required and respond to after hour emergencies
