SSEQ Compliance Advisor

Sydney Airport
$101,850 - $128,965 a year
New South Wales
Full time
July 30, 2025
Company Description

Sydney Airport is a leading global gateway connecting Australia to the world. Our business has been shaped by growth—from privatisation through to 2019, passenger volumes increased at a compound annual rate of 3.9%.

Now, we’re preparing for the next chapter. By 2050, we expect 100 million passengers to travel to and from the Sydney basin each year—and our goal is for 80 million of them to pass through SYD.

To deliver on this ambition, we’re focused on enhancing service, optimising our infrastructure, and challenging the status quo. Our people are guided by strong, action-oriented values—doing the right thing, delivering on our commitments, keeping each other safe, and driving both day-to-day excellence and future success.

Together, we’re working to make Sydney proud—every day.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and capable SSEQ Compliance Advisor to join our team in a key operational role supporting both day and curfew (night) shifts.

This is a frontline role providing second-line assurance across all maintenance and construction works at Sydney Airport. You’ll work on-site to ensure compliance with our Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (SSEQ) requirements, while partnering with contractors and internal stakeholders to manage interface risks and maintain operational readiness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct assurance inspections and audits during day and curfew periods

  • Monitor contractor compliance with WHS, quality, environmental and security obligations

  • Provide advice and coaching on appropriate risk controls

  • Review contractor SWMS, Safety and Quality Management Plans, and permits

  • Support coordination of works and interface management between projects, maintenance and operations

  • Participate in risk workshops, toolbox talks and pre-start briefings

  • Assist with return-to-service activities post-curfew

  • Support the operationalisation of Sydney Airport’s Critical Risk Program, including the implementation of first and second line assurance processes across the business

  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, NCC/BCA and WHS legislation

This role is ideal for a hands-on compliance professional who thrives in complex operational environments and enjoys driving high standards across a diverse project portfolio.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in construction management, engineering, WHS, or related trade discipline

  • Experience in construction supervision or compliance-focused roles

  • Strong working knowledge of risk management, QA systems, and WHS legislation

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and permit systems

  • WHS or Lead Auditor qualifications (preferred)

  • Skilled in incident response, inspections and contractor engagement

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Australian construction standards (e.g. BCA, NCC)

  • Strong understanding of contractor management and construction safety

  • Knowledge of Critical Risk programs or high-risk work frameworks (desirable)

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Practical approach to problem-solving and risk identification

  • Ability to work across rotating shifts and manage competing priorities

  • Customer-focused mindset and commitment to service delivery

Additional Information

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Aviation (SSA) role

  • Audiometric testing is required

  • This position operates across a rotating roster, including curfew and day shifts

  • You'll play a critical role in maintaining compliance and operational continuity across Sydney Airport’s dynamic and high-risk environment
