Reporting to the State Manager, the position includes the following responsibilities:
- Champion a safety-first culture that prioritises injury prevention, WHS, and environmental compliance.
- Set, monitor, and deliver against annual WHS performance targets including LTI, LTIFR, MTI, MTIFR, and incident management compliance.
- Lead and develop a team that is customer centric and values the importance of exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth with existing and potential customers.
- Embed a disciplined, standards-based operational culture.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence through system compliance and innovation.
- Continuously analyse and manage cost structures, including operations, labour, and contractor services.
- Meet and exceed performance targets including LPT, CP$R, and other State KPIs.
- Deliver weekly performance and financial reports with commentary to the State Manager and State Financial Controller.
- Lead by example, embodying the organisation’s values in all actions and decisions.
- Drive employee accountability through clear position descriptions and annual performance reviews.
- Foster strategic thinking, initiative, and behavioural excellence across the team.
- Proactively identify and recruit high-calibre talent aligned to company values and goals.

Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications, Certificates & Licences:
Essential:
- Certificate IV or above in a relevant discipline.
- Diploma-level (or higher) qualifications in Logistics, Management, or Business.
- Accredited WHS and Dangerous Goods training.
- Formal training in HR/IR legislation and practices.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of rail operations and the associated challenges of rostering around changing arrival and departure times
- Previous or current High Risk Forklift Licence.
- Trained in Lean Management processes.
- First Aid qualified (current or previous).
Formal First Aid – mental health training
Professional Experience:
- 5+ years in a senior operational management role within Transport, Logistics, or Rail.
- Demonstrated leadership of large, cross-functional teams across varied operational environments.
- Proven P&L and/or cost centre management experience.
- Practical experience in WHS committee leadership.
- Strong track record of union engagement and EA negotiations.
- Customer relationship and account management experience.
Experience in facilities, fleet (MHE), and supply chain management.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal capabilities.
- Deep understanding of WHS legislation, application, and monitoring.
- Commercial acumen and strong financial literacy.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Familiarity with SAP, transport management systems, and warehouse operations.
- Knowledge of the Fair Work Act and industry-specific Awards/Agreements.
- Experience with FMCG and retail logistics highly regarded.
Ability to design, implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
