We are currently looking for a compassionate and dedicated Student Support Officer to join our team in Melbourne to ensure that our students receive the best support and guidance during their educational journey.
Position Overview:
As a Student Support Officer, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to students, assisting them with academic, personal, and welfare issues. You will act as a point of contact for students, helping them navigate the academic environment, providing advice, and directing them to the appropriate services. This role requires a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in the well-being and success of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide face-to-face and virtual support to students, assisting with general inquiries, academic concerns, and personal well-being.
- Advise students on academic matters such as course progression, timetables, and assessments.
- Liaise with academic and administrative staff to ensure students’ needs are met.
- Assist in organizing and promoting workshops, events, and seminars focused on student success, well-being, and career development.
- Support students in managing stress, mental health issues, and other personal challenges, and refer them to appropriate resources where necessary (e.g., counselling services).
- Monitor student attendance and follow up on any attendance or academic concerns.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and provide reports as required.
- Work closely with international students to help them adjust to life in Melbourne, including offering guidance on visa-related concerns, accommodation, and cultural integration.
- Assist in the development and implementation of student support programs and initiatives.
- Act as an advocate for students, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed.
- Ensure the timely and efficient resolution of student-related issues, escalating matters when necessary.
Key Requirements:
- Experience in student support, welfare, or a similar role within the education sector is desirable.
- Strong understanding of the needs of students, including academic, emotional, and social support.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse student body, including international and domestic students.
- Familiarity with student information systems and administrative processes.
- High level of confidentiality, sensitivity, and professionalism in dealing with student matters.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive attitude with a strong desire to make a positive impact on student experiences.
- Knowledge of Australian student visa regulations (desirable, particularly for international students).
