Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) Program team supporting critical upgrades to the Hobart-class Air Warfare Destroyers. This role is ideal for a Systems Engineer with strong experience in Defence maritime projects and an understanding of the Systems Engineering Lifecycle, design assurance, and configuration control.
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including:
• Develop and maintain entry and exit criteria for Destroyer Capability Enhancement Design Reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).
• Support analysis and mapping of engineering changes and projects to Enhanced Docking Selected Restricted Availabilities (EDSRA) schedules.
• Provide systems-level input into the development of materials condition (MATCON) assessments and isolation methodologies.
• Maintain an engineering delegation to review, endorse, and approve System Amendments (SAs) and configuration changes.
• Ensure compliance with Naval Technical Regulatory Framework (NTRF) and update the DDG Safety Case in accordance with approved engineering changes.
What You’ll Bring
• Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of Defence maritime engineering governance.
• Experience with design reviews, configuration management, and technical data packages.
• Prior exposure to DDG platform or similar warship systems highly desirable.
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
More than anything, you’ll bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients.
