The opportunity
This role leads the planning and delivery of community engagement and marketing within the Community Learning and Service Centres (CLSC) department. It develops inclusive strategies and promotional initiatives that connect the community with Council services, particularly those offered by CLSC. By combining community insight with creative marketing, the role builds awareness, trust, and participation across diverse audiences.
Marketing is embedded in the department’s strategic planning and service design, positioning it as a key driver of community outcomes and service priorities. The role works collaboratively across Council to respond to the evolving needs of Hobsons Bay, supporting CLSC’s mission to deliver accessible, inclusive, and impactful programs and services.
What you'll do
- Lead and support the small Community Engagement and Marketing team responsible for delivering high-quality, community-focused initiatives and content.
- Provide expert input into ensuring marketing is integrated into the departmental strategic planning.
- Assist the team leaders, coordinators and manager in the development and implementation of community engagement and marketing strategies that increase engagement with and access to CLSC services.
- Coordinate and maintain digital communication channels, including websites and social media, ensuring content is accurate, timely, and in line with Council guidelines.
- Contribute to the creation and review of policies, procedures, and workflows related to marketing, communications, public/media relations, promotions, displays, exhibitions, and sponsorships.
- Design and deliver staff training in areas such as media, marketing, communications, and promotional techniques.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support marketing and communications initiatives.
- Oversee the marketing and communications budget, ensuring all expenditure aligns with approved allocations.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Media Studies, or Information Management with relevant experience in Marketing and Communications, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience.
- A current Victorian driver’s licence.
- Supervise and support staff across marketing, engagement, and communications functions.
- Strong understanding of marketing strategy development and implementation, ideally in a local government, library or community setting.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of engagement and marketing initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Proven ability in producing compelling written, visual, and video content aligned with brand voice and community expectations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write for diverse audiences and manage stakeholders with professionalism and tact.
- Proficiency with digital platforms and content management across websites and social media.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, and lead the team to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and deliver project outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate with internal teams and engage constructively with members of the public.
