Where you’ll be working
The Centre for Regulation and Enforcement is responsible for the regulation of tobacco and e-cigarette retailing and smoke-free places in NSW. The Centre aims to reduce tobacco and e-cigarette use, recognising smoking as the leading cause of preventable death and illness in our community.

The Centre conducts proactive, planned compliance activities for regulated retailers and smoke-free locations. The role of the Centre is to, in alignment with the NSW CPH Strategic Business Plan:

  • conduct proactive compliance inspection of retailers and smoke-free areas in accordance with the regulatory priorities.
  • work collaboratively with other regulatory agencies for tobacco and E-Cigarette compliance and enforcement purposes.
  • take enforcement action with a view to enforcing the law and deterring future offending conduct.
  • undertake research and monitoring of tobacco related issues.
  • promote positive compliance and the objects of the legislation.

About the Role
The Tobacco Regulatory Control Officer is to undertake regulation, compliance and enforcement activities in relation to the nicotine provisions of the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 1966, the smoke-free outdoor provisions of the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000 and Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008 including:

  • Inspections of regulated retailers and smoke-free locations to provide face-to-face education and monitor compliance in line with our regulatory priorities.
  • Investigate breaches of legislation and take appropriate enforcement action including issuing penalty notices and preparing briefs of evidence, in line with established policies and guidelines. Collection, collation and analysis of data relating to compliance monitoring and enforcement activity.
