About the role and team
G4S manages Nominated Police Gaols (NPG's) on behalf of Victoria Police including the Melbourne Custody Centre (MCC) which serves as the main custody reception centre for people who have been arrested and are required to attend Court. In addition to the MCC, we currently operate NPG's in Moorabbin, Ringwood, Collingwood, Dandenong, Bendigo & Wyndham opening soon.
The services we provide range from accommodation, escorting people in custody to their court appearance and 24/7 medical services. All services are designed to ensure the safety, well-being and security of people in custody, staff and the community.
Collingwood:
Part time, Tues, Weds & Thurs | 8am - 5pm
Ringwood:
Part time, Mon - Fri | 8am - 5pm
Dandenong:
Full time, Mon - Fri | 8am - 6pm
Melbourne CBD:
Casual, Mon - Sun | 24/7 roster
- must be willing to travel to and work in all locations
In this role, you will:
- Ensure the welfare of people in court and custody
- Manage and escort people through the facility, in court and custody, and provide custody services during court hearings
- Operate the control room and ensure the safe and secure operation of the Police Gaol
- Report on incidents, occupational health and safety, risk mitigations and intelligence
- Dealing with visitors, contractors, Victoria Police, and other stakeholders
- Search for people in custody
- As we operate on a 24/7 roster, experience in working shift work or willingness to be flexible.
What we're looking for
As a Custody Officer working alongside people in challenging situations, a great deal of resilience, maturity, compassion and empathy is required to promote positive engagement with people detained in custody and diffuse and manage conflict that may occur. It is imperative that people are made to feel safe and supported whilst in our care.
You'll need to have:
- The ability to achieve a clearance through a criminal record check (including fingerprints)
- Willing to be flexible with regard to start and finish times, working reasonable additional overtime and at times completing duties at other G4S operated locations
- A current Victorian Working With Children's Check or be willing to obtain this A current driver's licence
