*** If you don't call Australia home - then keep scrolling - overseas applicants will NOT be considered ***
If pressure makes you vanish to the nearest toilet, no shame, but this gig’s not for you.
But, if you are the one the boys go to when the drawing’s wrong,
the deadline’s tight, the new bloke’s stuffing around, or the boss is off-site and everything’s up in the air, Then keep going legend, You are already leading.
We are after a proper 2IC - for the ABBFAB workshop.
Someone who can handle pressure, run the floor, make calls on the fly,
and lead from the front.
This is your shot at a workshop leadership role that makes a difference, not a desk job where you have no clue what’s happening on the floor.
You will be on the tools when needed and solving problems when the unexpected hits.
You will be backed by owners who know what it’s like, because they have been right where you are.
About Us
Here at ABBFAB we are a general & heavy metal fabrication shop based in Darwin, trusted by clients in the mining, marine, civil and building industries to get high-spec jobs done fast and done right. We are known for straight talking, tight turnarounds and high standards. No fluff, No half-arsing, just solid work by good people.
Our workshop is busy, well-equipped, and backed by a crew who have got each other’s backs.
We have built it from the ground up, and we still show up every day.
Now we are ready to hand the reins to an outstanding 2IC who can lead from the floor
and keep things running tight as they step out of the daily grind.
We are not some corporate monster with middle managers in hi-vis who have never picked up a grinder.
We are a local business that gives a shite about the team, the clients, the gear, and the work we put our name on.
About the role
You will be the one holding the floor together when everything’s moving at once.
The go-between from crew to boss.
The person who plans jobs, schedules labour, chases gear, handles last-minute curveballs,
and keeps the standard high all the way through.
You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with the team, running the floor, mentoring the juniors,
keeping the work flowing and the bullshite out.
And when things get stuck (which they will) you will be the one who finds a way through without losing your head or dropping the ball.
You will be trusted to make calls, set the pace, and push back when needed.
You will work directly with the owners to manage workload, keep clients informed,
and make sure the shop runs like a weapon, not a circus.
You will still be on the tools when the job needs it, but you will also step up into quoting, project planning, procurement and client updates as you settle in.
We are looking for someone long-term and someone solid.
If you have the drive to thrive, you will grow with us.
Who this is for (aka the person we are looking for)
This is for the calm one, the one who gets it done while everyone else is still flapping their gums.
The one who knows their trade, knows their team and doesn’t crumble when the job blows out or the site throws a curveball.
You have likely been a boilermaker or fabricator for 5+ years.
Maybe you have led crews before, maybe you haven’t, it doesn’t really matter.
What matters is how you show up, how you carry yourself, and how you handle the days.
You don’t need to be loud. Just reliable, solid and switched on.
If that sounds like you, we have got a crew that will have your back, and a job that will respect what you bring.
You don’t blame, you don’t bullshite.
You lead by example, keep it simple and make sure the team around you is better because you are there.
You are not chasing a fancy title, you are after a proper role with respect, responsibility and a decent pay packet at the end of the week.
You want to be part of a team where everyone’s accountable, everyone’s learning and everyone’s pulling in the same direction.
If that is you, read on.
What we are looking for is someone who can think on their feet, own their decisions and show initiative right from the start.
Not from the NT?
Not a problem.
Grab your welding helmet and your favourite fishing shirt — then chuck in the Mrs, the kids, and the dog too! Come for the adventure, stay for the Territory lifestyle.
