As an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO), you will be responsible for enhancing relationship between police and the local Aboriginal Community, as well as establishing effective communication and networks between the police, Aboriginal community, government, and non-government agencies.
This is a designated position. In accordance with Special Measures of section 12 of the Equal Opportunities Act 2010, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

Your duties will include:
  • Work in partnership with Aboriginal community groups to develop and maintain knowledge of Aboriginal issues within the local area and maintain a contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to establishing effective communication and networking between Police members, local Aboriginal community members and other government and non-government agencies.
  • Establish and maintain a positive partnership environment in which the Aboriginal community are encouraged to communicate and interact with Police members to proactively resolve issues and actively promote awareness of the role of Victoria Police within the local Aboriginal community.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and delivering appropriate training programmes.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to customers based on customer needs.
  • Attending to welfare needs and providing support to Aboriginal persons in custody working alongside Aboriginal Community Justice Program (ACJP) members.
  • Prepare briefing notes and reports as required to document planned activities and record progress of same.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including the historical and contemporary issues impacting on the community.
  • Demonstrated community engagement and experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and articulate with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements and relevant information:
  • One (1) x full time ongoing position available, 20039073
  • VPS4 Salary range: $9 7,955 to $111,142
  • Your usual place of work will be at Wodonga police Complex located in 100 Hovell Street, Wodonga however you will be required to work at other locations within the Division as required.
  • For this role you will be required to apply and pay for a Working with Children Check prior to receiving a job offer. A receipt of payment is required as evidence of this.
  • You are required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
