Primary objective
Manage and support the Emergency Departments’ administrative support staff so that an efficient and effective service is provided
to all clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) Emergency Department receptionists in line
with quality human resource management practices, providing guidance and assistance where necessary.
2. Actively contribute to maximising accurate completion of patient election documentation to support revenue initiatives and
improve systems.
3. Provide training to staff in the use of the Department of Health Patient Management Computer System and DoH admission
procedures.
4. Maintain staff recreation leave rosters and shift work rosters using the Northern Territory Government Personnel and
Information Payroll system (PIPs) and also using the DoH Onestaff system.
5. Ensure shift work positions are staffed and provide relief as necessary.
6. Maintain and audit the data collection process within the Emergency Department.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage a busy and emotionally demanding client service in a health care setting.
2. Proven ability to communicate and negotiate effectively across all levels of government and the private sector including health
professionals, staff and the general public and maintain client confidentiality at all times.
3. Demonstrated ability to use initiative, organise own workload and provide leadership as a member of a team in demanding and
changing situations.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a complex 24/7 shift work roster.
5. Demonstrated ability to master hospital systems; understand and apply relevant financial processes and legislation related to
public hospital revenue and maintain a high level of data quality.
6. Proven high level ability in the effective use of various computer systems and packages, and an ability to adopt and support
implementation of new systems and processes.
7. Proven ability to mentor a team and to promote a culture of patient centered care and continuous improvement.
Desirable
1. Current Cert IV in Leadership or willingness to obtain.
2. Certificate or experience in Medical Terminology.
