About the Role:
The Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Administrative Support Officer to play a key role in the smooth day-to-day operations of our dynamic and collaborative research institute.

As the friendly face of CIRA, you’ll be the first point of contact for visitors, enquiries, and deliveries, while also coordinating key administrative tasks, including student onboarding and personnel records. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Welcoming visitors and responding to general enquiries (f2f, email and phone)
  • Maintaining and updating the Institute’s website
  • Collating articles and information for annual reports
  • Coordinating student onboarding and maintaining records
  • Reviewing travel requests via Curtin’s internal system (TOPS)
  • Maintaining central personnel movement calendars and room bookings
  • Organising in-house events and catering
  • Supporting the office with clerical tasks (stationery, maintenance, kitchen supplies)
  • Assisting CIRA staff and leadership with day-to-day admin requests
Who we are looking for (Selection Criteria):
Essential Criteria:
  • Experience in general administration with excellent time management skills
  • A professional, proactive, and customer-focused approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with cultural sensitivity
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and Curtin’s values
Desirable:
  • Experience in the higher education sector is not essential but will be highly regarded
  • Experience with Wordpress or similar will also be highly regarded
Role Requirements:
  • As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
  • Monday–Friday roster, ending between 5:00–5:30pm daily (start times can be flexible depending on your preference). FTE: 0.6 to 0.8 (4.5 to 6 hours per day)
  • Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction

The Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) is a multi-disciplinary research institute engaged in a range of projects involving or motivated by radio astronomy. CIRA’s activities draw together academic research and professional staff from a variety of science, engineering, and computing disciplines to tackle unique and demanding challenges in radio astronomy. CIRA is the lead organisation and operator of the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), half of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), one of four partners in the Australian SKA Regional Centre Joint Venture, and a key participant in the international SKA project.
