Job Description
The Griffith School of Engineering and Built Environment (EBE) offers a broad range of engineering programs and has an active research culture which has helped foster strong links with high schools and community groups plus key industries on a local, national and global level.
The Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Research Institute (QUATRI) conducts and facilitates cutting-edge research in quantum technology, nanotechnology, microtechnology, and micro and nanosystems –transforming the future of climate science, the health and energy sectors, and the field of quantum computing and communication. Our research activity spans physics, chemistry, molecular biology, applied mathematics and engineering.
As a Facilities Engineer, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to advance quantum and micro- technologies and drive meaningful change in areas like quantum computing, climate science, health, and energy. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- Provide crucial technical operations support, ensuring the optimal performance of our cutting-edge micro- and nanotechnology equipment through meticulous daily checks, expert management of installations and modifications, and proactive maintenance. You will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with Australian safety standards and coordinating with internal and external partners for essential repairs.
- You will develop, interpret, and apply relevant policies, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with work health and safety standards, Australian safety regulations, and best practices in facility operations.
- Actively contribute to laboratory improvements, manage hazardous materials, conduct routine inspections, and proactively identify and address potential issues to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Liaise with external suppliers to stay updated on technological advances, procure materials, manage spare parts inventory, and maintain operational efficiency within QMNC and ANFF-Q facilities.
- Support and assist technical and academic staff and lead by example in adhering to university policies, ethics, and safety standards, ensuring all users are well-informed and compliant.
In this role you will have the opportunity to work directly with cutting-edge micro- and nanotechnology equipment, including: Deposition equipment - CVD and Epitaxy; Characterisation equipment – AFM, Raman, SEM, OSA-Surf Scan and Particle detection, Ellipsometry and Electron microscopes, and; Fabrication equipment - Lithography, Etcher, Mask, Dicing and other nanofabrication tools.
This role involves a high level of physical work in varied environments, including accessing and operating within small or confined spaces, working at height using ladders, and performing tasks while kneeling or in low positions on a regular basis.
About you
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field). Additionally, a certification in facilities management or related field would be highly regarded.
You will also have:
- Experience in facilities management, maintenance, and equipment support is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems is desirable.
- Experience with microtechnology or cleanroom facilities is desirable.
- Experience in a University or research facility environment is desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with strong communication and organisational skills.
What we can offer
This is a fixed term (until 30 June 2028), full time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.
Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 7 range $101,068 - $109,496 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $118,249 - $128,110 per annum.
