The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Lead to be part of our Corporate Services Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the role is to coordinate the delivery of responsive, high quality geospatial solutions and results to PIRSA business divisions and other SA government agencies to enable them to meet their business needs. The GIS Lead operates in a multi-disciplinary environment and manages a small, high performing team working on complex projects utilising advanced skills in geospatial data design, capture, maintenance, modelling, analytics and presentation. The role provides technical direction to other team members.
The role also oversees the public web mapping application, ensuring quality-controlled content and managing relationships with external providers and supported agencies. The GIS Lead will have a thorough understanding of the principles of Geographic Information Systems theory and practice, have considerable hands-on experience and develop sufficient understanding of the client’s business to deliver effective solutions and services.
The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities including:
- Securing production through biosecurity and efficient and sustainable use of resources.
- Managing adverse events effectively and helping primary industries and communities improve preparedness, resilience and recover well.
- Regulatory excellence and reforms of our legislative framework and programs to drive efficiency, effectiveness and unlock potential.

Special Conditions

- Desirable:
- A tertiary qualification in a spatial science or information technology discipline such as spatial information systems, earth science, environmental science or surveying; or extensive relevant industry experience.
Remuneration
ASO7 - $108,109 min - $116,864 max per annum, plus superannuation
