About the Role
The Community Engagement Officer plays a vital role in ensuring children and young people in our care maintain strong connections with their extended family networks. This position is central to our mission of finding family and kinship care arrangements, aligning with the "Connected" domain of the Queensland Care Services Outcomes Framework.
Based in our Logan office, this is a part-time 12 month max term contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Family Search and Finding: You will be responsible for identifying and locating extended family members for children and young people under the Chief Executive’s custody or guardianship.
- Building Connections: You will inform family members about departmental processes and care arrangements, and facilitate their involvement in the child's life.
- Support and Advocacy: You will provide practical support to families considering kinship care, assisting with documentation, housing, income support, and access to funding to support family engagement.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: You will liaise with the child’s safety network, regional Placement Support Services, and other internal and external stakeholders to promote and support culturally responsive foster care.
- A Diploma in Community Services or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in working with diverse communities, including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.
- Strong communication and community engagement skills.
- Knowledge of the Out of Home Care system.
