Part time

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.

We value the lived experience and cultural knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates, and we encourage you to apply. We understand that cultural knowledge is a strength in this role and will support you in bringing your full self to the workplace

About the role

Permanent part time opportunity to work within the multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of culturally safe gynaecology care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women accessing the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital's Women's Business Shared Pathway (WBSP). Duties are of a complex and varied nature and the majority are performed with a high level of independence.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

Coordinate and conduct regular community-based health promotion and prevention sessions relevant to women's health.
Utilise high level communication and interpersonal skills to build health literacy and encourage self-determination in women accessing the WBSP, and the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Support the growth of cultural capability amongst the WBSP team, and the broader RBWH GOPD and allied health departments as required through the provision of cultural education and cultural mentoring relevant to a clinical context.
Actively participate in MNHHS Health Equity initiatives and appropriate professional organisations such as the National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners (NAATSIHWP)

Health Equity

It is expected that all Metro North Health staff, including the incumbent of this role as a valuable member of the Metro North workforce, contribute to the health equity agenda and meet the intent of supporting the defined six actions that specifically meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS), by actively supporting the elimination of racial discrimination and institutional racism; supporting increased access to health care; influencing the social, cultural and economic determinants of health; supporting the delivery of sustainable, culturally safe and responsive health services; and recognise the importance of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations to design, deliver, monitor and review the health and support services we provide.

Benefits when working for us
