Primary objective
Provide efficient and effective advice, oversight and management support to the senior executive, directors and staff of Teaching
and Learning Services through leadership of a small team with responsibilities for various elements of administration services,
including corporate support such as budget, financial, human resource, position establishment, records management, fleet, travel,
policy, planning and logistical support.
Context statement
Teaching and Learning Services provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to preschools and schools to maximise
outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic
assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing
government priorities, offering expert advice to the education minister and the department’s senior executives. We enhance our
work by actively engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all of our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure that efficient and effective processes are in place for the management of human, position establishment, financial and
technological resources across TLS to support service delivery to staff and Northern Territory Government schools.
2. Provide advice, evidence-based analysis and strategic comment across a range of issues that impact administration services
across TLS.
3. Lead and mentor a team that provides coaching and support for staff to ensure best practice and high-level financial literacy
understanding and capacity building.
4. Provide leadership in the development and monitoring of strategic documentation including Business Plans and Annual Report
contributions.
5. Play a key role in the development, coordination and implementation of strategic projects.
6. Implement an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate support systems and processes within TLS including
proactive performance monitoring and reporting.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in maintaining systems of internal control, preparing and presenting detailed costings, high level organisational
structure management to monitor current roles in TLS, reporting lines and assist with HR planning.
2. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a high performing multi-disciplinary team.
3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and fluently, orally and in writing.
4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders to link service
support with strategic planning and the delivery of divisional and departmental objectives.
5. Experience in the development and implementation of an effective program of performance reporting and monitoring to
facilitate effective governance and continuous improvement for a large, complex team of more than 200 staff.
Desirable
1. Understanding of the Department of Education and Training corporate policies and processes.
2. Relevant tertiary qualification in administration, management or business.
