$101,985 - $110,964 per annum plus RDO leave and Super

In this role, you will foster a culture of safety within our organisation and support community organisations in creating secure environments for children. You will work to improve child safe practices by developing, implementing, and continually enhancing these practices. Embedding the principles of child safety into the culture of Boroondara Council will be a key focus. You will contribute to the effective management of child safe incidents, coordinate external-facing child safe initiatives and communications, and ensure an active presence in child safe networks and community initiatives.
A little bit about the role
As the Child Safe and Social Policy Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing social policies across Health and Wellbeing Services. Your primary focus will be on the ongoing implementation and embedding of Council’s Child Safe Policy and practices. This role is essential for ensuring compliance with the Royal Commission’s child safe standards recommendations and the Victorian Child Safe Standards, which aim to protect children from abuse and harm.
You will lead the implementation, embedding, and continuous improvement of Child Safe Standards (CSS). Promoting a child-safe workplace culture, ensuring child safety and well-being, and prioritising diversity and inclusion will be central to your role. You will work closely with the Child Safe Working Group, Executive and Senior Leadership teams, and Council staff to develop and promote Child Safety strategies and practices. Your efforts will ensure that Council fulfills its responsibilities and upholds its commitment to being a child-safe organisation.

You are a dedicated professional with a strong background in social policy, community development, or a related human service profession. Your experience in producing reports, briefings, plans, and informing strategies has consistently led to positive outcomes for the community.

Employment Requirements
A tertiary qualification in social policy/planning/community development or related human service profession with demonstrated experience producing reports, briefings, plans and strategies that achieve positive outcomes for the community.
Sound understanding of Child Safe Standards, legislative requirements, and compliance methodologies, particularly within the Community Services sector
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check and hold a valid Working with Children Clearance.
