About the opportunity
As the Compliance Officer , you will be responsible for monitoring University of Sydney compliance against relevant federal government legislation and regulations and reporting on compliance issues. You will also manage student and stakeholder enquiries relating to compliance across the range of departments and agencies, making appropriate referrals and supporting all functions associated with the University’s adherence to the Educational Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work with a team of Compliance Officers, and report to the International Reporting & Compliance Manager
provide specialised advice and referral to student visa holders, staff and external stakeholders via phone, email and in person as it relates to visa compliance, enrolment and progression, making appropriate recommendations and/or referrals
interpret & apply University policies and procedures to students in combination with the appropriate national legislative framework
produce, analyse and compare reports from the University’s student record system to inform compliance monitoring, making recommendations for improvements to manage risk where appropriate
provide training and presentations to staff, students and other stakeholders regarding the interpretation and application of relevant legislative requirements and University policies.
assess and respond to requests for the issuance of student visa documentation and cancellation in accordance with enrolment and legislative requirements
About you
bachelor’s degree and experience and/or knowledge in risk mitigation and compliance strategies to support the ESOS framework within a higher education setting
experience in interpreting and applying legislative requirements, in particular the ESOS Act in consultation with University policies
extensive knowledge of PRISMS, SITS, Sydney Student and VEVO
can contribute to the development of systems and processes to support risk mitigation
strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems relating to the issuance of student visa documentation and/or cancellation in accordance with the enrolment and legislative requirements
ability to communicate informative, timely and accurate messages to international student visa holders.
