What You'll be Doing
The Counsellor will provide individual and group-work interventions in a range of settings that reduce drug related harm and provide a high standard of culturally responsive, clinical care in line with SWSLHD policies and procedures, standards, relevant legislation, and the NSW Health Code of Conduct. The position will also participate in professional development, cultural supervision, clinical supervision, teaching, quality activities and other relevant departmental and administrative duties


Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Drug Health Services operates across the South Western Sydney Local Health District, providing a comprehensive range of treatments and interventions for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and other drug use.
The services include inpatient withdrawal at the 'Corella' unit in Fairfield, the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialised teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and the Youth Service. Recognised for their excellence, SWSLHD Drug Health Services has been a finalist in the NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards, highlighting their commitment to high-quality care and innovation.
The supportive and multidisciplinary team is dedicated to delivering compassionate care and innovative treatment approaches. With convenient locations at hospitals and community health centres, the service ensures accessible and effective support for the diverse communities in the region.

  • This position has been advertised under the SWSLHD Aboriginal Targeted Recruitment Program, meaning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, where found suitable, will be given higher priority. Do you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander? If so, please share some details about your heritage, including a brief description of your family and community connections.
  • Tertiary qualification as a Registered Counsellor, which provides eligibility for membership with a professional organisation and or current registration with AHPRA where applicable.
  • Can you describe your experience in delivering culturally responsive therapeutic interventions for Aboriginal clients within a drug and alcohol service, including your understanding of harm reduction approaches and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team?
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
