The Job Profile

We're looking for a highly skilled Editor to join our dynamic children's editorial team to support our ambitious growth plans. In the role you'll help us to publish the most exciting and distinctive talent, championing books, authors and illustrators with a clear vision, creatively, commercially and profitably. This is an exciting time to be joining S&S Australia and a terrific opportunity to work on – and help shape – a list that's packed with popular, acclaimed and stand-out books for children.

The Role

Reporting to the Publishing Director, you will support on a number of key projects (working with the Publishing Director and editorial team) as well as manage your own titles from manuscript delivery to printer-ready files, including structural and line editing, proofreading, liaising with authors and illustrators, agents, freelancers and internal colleagues, copywriting and using title management systems. You will read and report on submissions and contribute to creative conversations about growing the list.

You will maintain title data in our bibliographic system, updating throughout the publishing process.

The Candidate Profile:
You will have a passion for children’s books and ideally have experience working in children’s , although we are open to candidates with other book experience. You will be a motivated, committed, creative, flexible individual with excellent editorial skills, a forensic eye for detail, a thorough understanding of editorial and production processes and knowledge of typesetting and typography. and demonstrable experience of taking multiple titles through the full editorial process.

We are a small team, so you will be happy to pitch in and you will have strong communication, project management, organisational and time management skills. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to the demands of managing multiple schedules. Knowledge of the children’s book market would be beneficial.

This is a full-time permanent role, with a flexible working arrangement including working from home and in the S&S office in Melbourne.
