You will play a key role in positioning the business for success by delivering best-practice environmental performance and ensuring regulatory compliance. As a valued member of our high-performing environment team, you will provide technical expertise across a broad range of environmental management activities relevant to waste and systems management.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage environmental waste data: Capture, maintain, and report waste-related data with accuracy and timeliness to support regulatory compliance and informed decision-making.
Centralise waste management systems: Lead the integration of waste processes across salmon, prawn, and barramundi operations, transitioning from siloed approaches to a unified, efficient system that delivers cost savings and operational consistency.
Advance circular economy initiatives: Champion projects that enhance resource recovery, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency in line with sustainability goals.
Lead enterprise-wide collaboration: Facilitate the Responsible Business Waste Working Group, coordinating monthly meetings and driving the implementation of strategic waste initiatives across the business.
Support Environmental Management System (EMS): Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Tassal’s EMS, working closely with the National Systems Manager – Assurance.
Oversee contractor performance: Manage external contractors engaged in waste and environmental compliance activities, ensuring work is completed to required standards.
Engage with regulators: Liaise with environmental regulatory bodies as authorised by the National Environment Manager, representing Tassal professionally and ensuring compliance.
Conduct site inspections: Perform regular inspections across operational sites to monitor environmental performance, identify risks, and ensure adherence to waste management protocols.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in science, environmental science, environmental engineering or similar. Extensive experience in waste management delivery may be considered in lieu of a formal degree, at the discretion of the hiring manager.
2 to 3 years’ experience in an environmental or waste management role
Driver's licence and reliable transport with the ability to travel between operational sites in Tasmania as required
Experience with Environmental Management Systems implementation (desirable).
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Occasional interstate travel will be required in this role.
