What’s the job?
We’re seeking a Head of Cloud and Infrastructure to lead the prioritisation and operational delivery of our hybrid infrastructure services. This role is pivotal in ensuring stability, scalability, and security of the IT systems that power our learning, teaching, research, and administration.
You will lead a skilled team of engineers, drive cloud adoption (primarily Google Cloud and AWS), and oversee on-premises environments. With a blend of leadership and technical expertise, you will shape our cloud and infrastructure roadmap, strengthen resilience, and ensure alignment with enterprise IT strategy.
Day-to-day accountabilities:
As the Head of Cloud and Infrastructure, you will:
- Define and execute the cloud and infrastructure roadmap, driving modernisation, security, and cost efficiency.
- Lead and optimise hybrid environments across GCP, AWS, Azure, and on-premises systems, ensuring performance, uptime, and scalability.
- Manage enterprise networks (VPN, firewalls, load balancers) and unified communications platforms (Teams, VoIP, contact centre solutions).
- Oversee systems administration, including Windows, Linux, SQL, VMware, automation, and monitoring, ensuring robust server lifecycle management.
- Strengthen resilience through disaster recovery planning, backup testing, and business continuity alignment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks (ISO27001, TEQSA, ESOS, SOX) and enforce IT governance and security standards.
- Develop vendor partnerships to optimise performance, cost, and innovation.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
Who you are:
You are an experienced technology leader with a proven record of delivering scalable and secure infrastructure solutions. You combine deep technical expertise with strategic vision and hands-on problem-solving.
You have:
- Leadership experience (4+ years) managing cloud or infrastructure teams.
- Technical expertise (8+ years) across GCP, AWS, Azure, virtualisation, networking, server administration, and automation.
- Proven success implementing hybrid infrastructure at scale, managing vendors, and ensuring audit readiness (including SOX compliance).
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science (required) and certifications in cloud or IT infrastructure technologies (desirable).
