Why work for the City:

There’s never been a better time to join the City of Busselton. Located in the picturesque southwest coastal region of WA, we are one of the fastest growing local government authorities. We pride ourselves on providing positive outcomes for our community and offering a supportive environment for our employees with opportunities to learn and gain further qualifications.

About the role:

As a Horticulture Team Member you will work as part of a team participating in the establishment and maintenance of the City’s many parks, gardens and reserves, including the City’s stunning foreshore areas. This is a full time role working a nine-day fortnight with a rostered day off.

You will be responsible for routine landscape maintenance which will include:

  • Weed control (manual and herbicidal)
  • Pruning
  • Planting
  • Mulching
  • Litter control

To succeed you will need the following competencies:

  • Previous experience in a horticulture role where you have undertaken a wide range of parks and gardens maintenance and development activities.
  • A demonstrated understanding of horticultural maintenance practices and techniques, including the ability to correctly use a range of small plant and equipment.
  • A commitment to producing work of the highest quality.
  • The proven ability to work well in a team, and excellent customer service skills.
  • A desire to learn and develop your skills.
  • A valid White Card.

You will also need to be able to provide a National Police Clearance no more than 6 months old (or have the ability to apply for one) and provide proof of right to work in Australia.

Applicants who have a MR class driver’s licence will be highly regarded, and a chainsaw certificate of competency plus a recognised qualification in chemical handling/application would be advantageous, although training can be provided. A formal qualification in horticulture is not essential but would be preferred.
