Hydro Oasis is Northern Tasmania’s destination for hydroponic equipment, rare and exotic plants, and expert advice. More than just a retail space, we’re a vibrant, community-focused hub for indoor gardening.
Our mission is to break down the stigma surrounding hydroponics, show that anything can be grown hydroponically, and make sustainable, soil-free gardening accessible and inspiring. Alongside this, we celebrate the beauty of rare and exotic plants, bringing species to Tasmania that you won’t find anywhere else.
We’re still in our infancy as a business, but we’re growing quickly, and we’re looking for passionate people who want to grow with us long-term.
The Role
This is not just a retail assistant job. It is an opportunity to become a core member of Hydro Oasis and directly shape how our plant collection and content evolves.
Your responsibilities will include:
Plant Care & Maintenance
- Independently care for our full indoor plant range, ensuring every plant is healthy, vibrant, and ready for display.
- Confidently identify common plant problems such as over/under-watering, nutrient deficiencies, pests, or fungal issues.
- Make judgement calls on when plants need remedial care, when they should be moved into recovery, or when stock needs to be removed completely.
- Keep displays fresh, visually appealing, and reflective of the high quality our customers expect.
Rare Plant Sourcing
- Work with us to research, discover, and acquire unique, unusual, and rare plants that can’t be found anywhere else locally.
- Stay up to date with plant trends and collector demand, helping us keep Hydro Oasis ahead of the curve.
- Build relationships with potential suppliers, growers, and collectors where needed.
Content Creation & Education
- Be the face of Hydro Oasis across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
- Film and present long-form and short-form videos, such as:
- Care tutorials for specific plant species
- Potting and repotting demonstrations
- Nutrient and product highlights
- Behind-the-scenes looks at the nursery and rare plant arrivals
- Share your passion and knowledge in a way that excites our audience and builds trust in the Hydro Oasis brand.
Customer Service & Retail Support
- Assist plant lovers in-store, answering their questions and helping them select plants suited to their home environment and experience level.
- Pack and prepare retail and online plant orders with care, ensuring customers receive healthy, well-labelled plants.
- Help maintain signage, labels, and displays, keeping the store tidy, engaging, and welcoming.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
✔ Has extensive knowledge and passion for indoor plants, this is essential! (Hydroponics experience is not required.)
✔ Can confidently care for plants with minimal supervision and knows how to spot and fix problems before they become serious.
✔ Is genuinely passionate about sharing plant knowledge, whether through customer conversations or social media videos.
✔ Has a creative spark and enjoys coming up with new ideas for displays, sourcing, or content.
✔ Is reliable, trustworthy, and looking for a long-term position, not just a temporary job.
✔ Wants to be part of a business in its early stages and grow with us into the future.
No formal qualifications are required, your experience and enthusiasm for indoor plants are what matter most.
