DEPARTMENT OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

  • Full-time, fixed-term opportunity ending date 2 October 2026.
  • PoV Grade 5.1 $113,022 - $124,884, + 12% superannuation.
  • Play a direct role in supporting Victoria's democratic processes and parliamentary system.

About the role

The Inquiry Officer provides high level research support to inquiries undertaken by standing and select committees established by the Legislative Council. In this role you will draft reports for committee inquiries, undertake major research, analysis and review, and develop recommendations for the committee's consideration.

This position interacts with people on all levels, maintains confidentiality on sensitive issues and acts with tact and diplomacy.

  • Provide high-level research, analysis, and reporting to support Council Committee inquiries.
  • Draft reports, briefs, and recommendations for committees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Advise stakeholders on parliamentary procedure and support the conduct of public hearings.

About you

To succeed in the role, you will exercise exceptional research and writing skills, with the ability to provide accurate and detailed documentation within tight timeframes and under limited supervision. You thrive in a dynamic and flexible environment, thinking critically and conceptually to analyse and identify innovative ways to solve complex issues.

You are a strong communicator, can create effective working relationships and engage in consultation with a range of stakeholders. As a senior member of the team, you will proactively contribute to a positive culture and provide guidance to the team.

  • Strong research and writing skills with the ability to deliver clear, detailed reports under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to consult and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organised, analytical, and capable of problem-solving while maintaining impartiality and professionalism.
