About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced and driven PR Manager to lead strategic communications and brand storytelling for BYD across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role is pivotal in shaping public perception, building brand equity, and driving awareness of BYD as a global leader in new energy vehicles.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the narrative of one of the world’s fastest-growing EV brands. You’ll be responsible for developing and executing impactful media strategies, managing press relationships, driving thought leadership, and ensuring consistent and compelling messaging across all channels.

Key Responsibilities

PR Strategies & Planning:

  • Develop and execute integrated PR strategies aligned with business objectives and marketing plans.
  • Create insight-driven campaigns and storytelling opportunities to elevate brand visibility and perception across ANZ.

Media & Influencer Relations

  • Cultivate strong relationships with media, journalists, influencers, and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to drive positive coverage.
  • Proactively pitch stories and secure media placements across print, digital, and broadcast channels.
  • Oversee KOL/influencer partnerships that support PR objectives and brand alignment.

Content & Communication

  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases, speeches, and other media materials that reflect brand values and voice.
  • Ensure consistent, engaging messaging across all communications channels.

Events & Sponsorship Support

  • Partner with internal teams to plan and execute media events, product launches, and press conferences.
  • Coordinate media attendance and coverage to maximise brand exposure and engagement.

Brand Reputation & Crisis Management

  • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, using insights to inform PR strategy.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans; act as spokesperson when required.
  • Address reputational risks quickly and effectively to protect the brand.

Stakeholder & Agency Management

  • Manage the external PR agency and serve as the primary liaison for media and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity in PR communications.

Performance Reporting & Budgeting

  • Measure PR effectiveness through media tracking, coverage analysis, and engagement metrics.
  • Report on campaign performance, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage the PR budget efficiently, ensuring ROI on all initiatives.

Media Training

  • Prepare executives and spokespeople for interviews and media appearances.
  • Deliver coaching to ensure confident, consistent communication in all public-facing opportunities.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business; experience in automotive industry highly desired.
  • 7+ years of experience in brand management, marketing, or automotive product marketing.
  • Strong understanding of premium/luxury positioning, emerging EV trends, and customer behavior.
  • Proven success managing integrated marketing campaigns and working with creative/media agencies.
  • Excellent project management, storytelling, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with high ambiguity.
