Our Operations and Maintenance group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Water Quality Specialist to join their Network Services team!
The Operations and Maintenance Group is dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient supply of water services to our customers through the operation and maintenance of our water, wastewater and resource recovery infrastructure.
The Network Services team is accountable for the performance and optimisation of Urban Utilities Water and Wastewater Networks to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction is delivered to over 600,000 properties and 1.3 million of customers within Urban Utilities service regions. The Group recognises the complexity of the accountability and has adopted a functional matrix structure to deliver performance outcomes.
Reporting directly to the Manager Network Engineering, The Principal Water Quality Specialist provides expert water quality engineering direction, support and advice across Operations & Maintenance. The role delivers technical solutions to complex and emergent water quality issues, ensuring safe potable water, protecting public health, enhancing customer experience, minimising long-term costs, and meeting regulatory and drinking water requirements.
Success in this role will be measured by how effective the technical engineering solutions are in achieving operational strategies and performance standards, compliance to the regulatory obligations and by how well water quality engineering capability is developed across the team and beyond
About you:
- Relevant degree qualification in science (Chemistry/Microbiology), engineering, or equivalent.
- Eligibility for registration with the authorised governing body.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in managing water quality within a water utility or related field.
- Extensive, proven technical expertise in water quality, water quality incidents and operational engineering.
- Strong track record of coaching and mentoring water quality capability in others.
- Extensive experience in building, managing, and maintaining effective strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Performance of 'on call' duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities' operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.
