About the role
We’re seeking an Environmental Advisor – Water based in Sydney to join our national HSSE team. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert for water and related environmental risk management across our national infrastructure portfolio. This includes stormwater, process water, wastewater, groundwater, emergency water management, water infrastructure and associated compliance and assurance programs.
You will work closely with delivery teams, environmental consultants and regulators to drive compliance, sustainability and innovation in water management across our assets and projects. Quarterly travel to national sites will be required in this role.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Provide technical leadership on water-related environmental risks across road, tunnel and infrastructure projects
- Contribute to leadership in environmental management excellence
- Deliver water data analysis, monitoring programs, risk assessments and reporting to support performance improvement
- Ensure compliance with water-related legislation, standards and Transurban policies across operations and projects
- Coordinate reviews and updates of Operational Environmental Management Plans and subplans to meet ISO 14001 standards
- Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents involving water systems, and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate environmental data and documentation for reporting and audit purposes
- Partner with internal teams and contractors to improve and embed consistent water management practices
- Engage with regulators, consultants and stakeholders to stay up to date with emerging environmental requirements
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and training related to water and general environmental management
- Support input into corporate reporting, including sustainability disclosures and statutory submissions
This role requires someone who possesses:
- Strong experience in environmental management and water management, or equivalent experience in senior environmental consulting, ideally with a focus on infrastructure, transport and/or operational environments as they relate to water and wastewater management
- Technical knowledge of water legislation (i.e. in Qld, NSW and VIC), stormwater, wastewater, groundwater, risk assessment and related guidance and regulatory frameworks
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent
- Confidence working with risk management tools, assurance programs and ISO 14001 frameworks
- Effective stakeholder engagement and the ability to guide, train and influence others
- Experience conducting audits, assessments and compliance reviews
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Experience engaging with senior management, government regulators and industry bodies is an advantage
