Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a yard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Are you passionate about shaping the way communities understand and value water?

Join our Corporate Communications team as the Water Literacy Education Program Lead, a full-time, permanent role reporting to the Manager Water Literacy.

In this dynamic position, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and delivering engaging, innovative education programs that spark curiosity and build trust with schools and communities across Melbourne.

Your work will directly support Melbourne Water’s Water Literacy Strategy and deliver on our legislative obligations under the Statement of Obligations (Water Act).

  • Design, develop and deliver Water Literacy programs – both online and in person - that are tailored to the needs of diverse audience groups, ensuring alignment with curriculum and water literacy outcomes.
  • Apply customer insights to inform the development of content and programming that meets the needs and expectations of schools, communities, and other stakeholders across multiple channels.
  • Manage casual staff resources including onboarding, scheduling, and upskilling to support both online and in-person program delivery.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in program content, delivery methods across all formats.
  • Work closely with the Education Officer and Visitor Experience and Events Lead to plan and execute programs that integrate the latest educational content, resources, and pedagogy methods across digital and physical platforms.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support program success and alignment with organisational goals.

About You

  • Demonstrative experience in education program design and delivery, including the development of engaging learning content for both online and in-person formats, tailored to diverse audiences such as schools, community and industry groups.
  • Excellent project management capabilities, including planning, execution, and evaluation within tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Highly developed organisational and time management skills, with the flexibility to adapt to changing needs and environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across internal teams, external partners, and customers groups.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, particularly in navigating complex or ambiguous environments to deliver innovative and effective solutions.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary learning pedagogies, curriculum frameworks, and community education practices, ideally within the water or environmental sector.
  • Working with Children Check, Police Check and VIC drivers licence required
