Able Australia is looking for a Project Officer to help organise our Deafblind Camp from November 3, 2025, to April 24, 2026. The role is for 2 days each week.

This is an exciting time for Able Australia because we have received a special grant from The Lionel & Yvonne Spencer Olver-Carlyle Charitable Foundation to run our Deafblind Camp for the second time.

Our first camp was held in 2024 and was a big success. Many people with different degrees of deafblindness travelled from all over Australia to join our 3-day event. There were lots of fun activities like Archery, Dancing, a Giant Swing, Games, and Events. There were also quiet spaces for relaxing or making friends. It was a highlight of the year for many who attended.

In April 2026, Able Australia will host the second camp, this time in Mount Evelyn, Victoria. Deafblind people from all across Australia will be supported to come and participate.

The camp provides a welcoming space where people who are deafblind can connect with others, form meaningful friendships, and enjoy activities that support their overall wellbeing and sense of belonging.

We are looking for a Project Officer to work with our Deafblind Services Manager and the rest of the team. Your job will be to help coordinate the event by working with participants, support workers, Auslan interpreters, volunteers, camp coordinators, and other stakeholders. We want someone with strong skills in Auslan and ideally someone who has experience in the deafblind community.

Skills and experience required to be successful in this role:

Essential:

  • High level problem solving and analytic skills
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability to communicate with people with complex communication support needs
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in rostering staff according to the requirements of the camp
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
  • Experience in the disability sector, ideally with people living with deafblindess
  • Knowledge of and ability to coordinate large teams of people and match communication guides with participants.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Auslan or equivalent experience is desirable
  • Hold a valid Australian driver’s licence or ability to transport themselves
  • NDIS Worker Screening check

Benefits of joining Able Australia:

  • Not for Profit Salary Packaging benefits (pay less tax and take home more earnings every fortnight)
  • Flexible starting times and working from home options, including a 50% Working From Home policy
  • 17% annual leave loading (get paid more on your holidays)
  • Able Rewards program offering instant discounts to hundreds of online retailers, including Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Airbnb, Hotels, and Flights and more!
  • Positive team environments where your ideas matter
  • Continuous support and supervision to enable you to develop your career and progress
  • Our values are Trust, Respect, Excellence and Kindness and we imbed these values into all of our work practices
