The Opportunity
Join a high-impact team at UniSC as a Risk and Compliance Adviser – Business Continuity and Resilience, where you’ll play a central role in strengthening the University’s approach to resilience, business continuity, and risk management. As part of the Governance and Risk Management portfolio, you will contribute to a transparent, consistent, and accountable framework that underpins the University’s operations—supporting teaching, research, and administration.
This is a strategically important role that combines high-level advisory responsibilities with hands-on implementation. You will lead business resilience planning, develop and deliver risk and compliance frameworks, conduct business impact analyses, manage critical plans, and provide specialist advice across the University. Your work will help embed a culture of informed risk-taking, ethical decision-making, and legislative compliance across all levels of the organisation.
Working closely with stakeholders across the University community, you will help drive continuous improvement through training, assessments, control evaluations, and collaborative initiatives that build resilience and ensure operational integrity.
You Will:
- lead business resilience and continuity planning activities across the University and maintain the University’s Business Continuity and Resilience Framework, including Emergency Management and Critical Incident Plans;
- provide subject matter expertise and advice on business continuity risks for critical university services, contracts, projects, and operations;
- conduct and support annual business impact analyses and reviews of the University’s business continuity and emergency management plans; and
- develop and implement risk and compliance frameworks, including undertaking risk assessments and recommending mitigation strategies.
About You
You are an experienced and detail-oriented professional who understands the importance of a well-governed, compliant, and risk-aware institution. You bring both strategic thinking and a practical mindset to your work—capable of influencing high-level discussions and delivering effective, on-the-ground outcomes.
With a collaborative and consultative approach, you’re skilled at building trusted relationships with stakeholders, confidently navigating complex institutional environments, and explaining risk, resilience, and emergency management concepts in a way that’s clear, actionable, and accessible. Your work style is proactive, ethical, and solutions-focused, and you are motivated by making a positive impact on organisational culture and performance.
You Will Possess:
- tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. risk, business continuity, emergency management, law, compliance, governance) with substantial experience in risk, compliance and/or emergency management within a complex environment;
- demonstrated experience in business continuity planning and emergency management, including facilitating cross-functional risk assessments and crisis simulations;
- strong working knowledge of risk mitigation strategies, controls, and treatments;
- demonstrated experience in developing and presenting detailed risk and compliance reports to senior stakeholders;
- excellent understanding of Australian Standards for Risk and Compliance Management, with the ability to interpret legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks;
- outstanding stakeholder relationship and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels of an organisation; and
- high-level written communication skills, with experience developing and delivering business continuity and resilience training and awareness programs.
Desirable:
- knowledge of compliance obligations and relevant legislation within the higher education sector;
- postgraduate qualifications in risk management, emergency management, or a related field.
