The VirtualKIDS Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a temporary 0.4FTE (16 hours per week ) Staff Specialist to join their team as soon as possible until 14 May 2026.
SCHN VirtualKIDS is a network service delivering the hospital's virtual care strategy. It has grown to become a statewide service to encompass provision of care to children across NSW and continues to evolve in this space with new and innovative models of care using technology. The strategy aims to support patients from community-based care through to acute care in settings outside the hospital - in their home, with their GP and/or local hospital. VirtualKIDS aims to keep children at home or close to home where possible, ensuring timely delivery of patient and family-centred care and reducing unnecessary/avoidable emergency presentations and hospitalisations using virtual care platforms, remote monitoring and at times in person acute review. The staff specialist will join the existing multidisciplinary, multicentered, multi-organisational team working in VirtualKIDS.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrician (FRACP) Emergency Physician (FACEM).
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in paediatrics within the last 12 months at the role delineation of the service. Proven recent clinical expertise in the management of children with acute or sub-acute medical conditions through virtual platforms and/or recent paediatric emergency medicine is preferable.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and respond onsite within a reasonable time, with the availability to work a 7 day rotating roster.
- Proven ability to embrace and manage new models of care and ability to manage and work within an interdisciplinary team.
- Able to provide support for complex patients under VirtualKIDS, ambulatory, hospital-in-the-home and acute review clinic service.
