As part of the Autobidder team, you will manage trading performance for the world’s largest fleet of battery storage projects. You will drive continuous improvements in Tesla’s in-house automated trading platform, Autobidder, optimizing battery revenues and supporting the transition to sustainable energy.
You will generate actionable insights, communicate complex topics clearly, and engage with stakeholders. Collaborating with engineers, you will refine trading strategies, support decision-making, and monitor Autobidder’s real-time performance to balance risk and returns.
This role requires analytical problem-solving, a proactive mindset, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
This position is open to applicants based in both Melbourne & Sydney.
What You'll Do
- Oversee Tesla’s BESS trading performance in the AEMO market and manage a team of trading analysts.
- Lead high-impact analytical projects that guide trading strategy, algorithm development, and market expansion — from scoping to insight delivery.
- Shape how we approach complex analytical problems, such as market mechanism modelling, simulations, and back testing frameworks.
- Collaborate with optimization and software teams to co-design reusable tools and analytical workflows that sharpen our competitive edge in algorithmic electricity market trading.
- Develop and document trading processes to improve team and asset performance.
- Lead discussions with internal teams, customers, and external organizations to share fleet performance insights and operational updates.
- Conduct batch experiments using proprietary simulation tools, performing detailed forensic analysis of outcomes to pinpoint opportunities for algorithmic enhancements.
- Enhance our existing Python-based analytical tools to thoroughly evaluate the battery fleet’s performance, generating actionable insights that guide future trading decisions.
- Analyse evolving market design and policy changes in key regions to assess their impact on storage monetization, engaging with relevant stakeholders to shape strategic decisions.
- Translate commercial questions and market signals into structured hypotheses and evidence-based insights.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Engineering.
- 5+ years of physical or financial trading experience in Australian electricity markets.
- Proficient in SQL, Python, and Jupyter Notebooks for data analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative approach.
- Data-driven mindset with informed opinions on Autobidder’s development and performance.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously while influencing others.
- Strong understanding of quantitative modelling and risk management.
