Primary objective
Provide and manage administrative processes that contribute to the delivery of policy, advice and regulation for the
sustainable use of the Territory’s water resources in line with the Water Act 1992.
Context statement
The position supports the delivery of water licensing, regulation and permit services in a timely manner.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assess and administer water licences, driller licences and permit applications through preparation of statutory instruments
consistent with department policies and procedures within timeframes.
2. Administer and track regulatory compliance reporting and associated actions.
3. Provide advice to public, industry and other government agencies in a timely and professional manner on the water
regulatory framework and processes applicable in the Northern Territory.
4. Maintain information management systems to deliver water licences and permits that comply with the requirements of
the Water Act.
5. Provide support to the division and department to deliver its objectives and obligations.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience working with clients or in a customer service area.
2. Demonstrated experience applying guidelines or policy and following and maintaining procedures to draft statutory
instruments including licences and permits.
3. A high level of experience in word processing, formatting and the use of spreadsheets and other electronic data
management and database tools.
4. Demonstrated experience in analyzing information and preparing recommendations based on evidence for decision-
making purposes.
5. A high level of oral and written communication skills with attention to detail and ability to provide advice to technical and
non-technical stakeholders.
6. Work in a team environment, under limited supervision and manage individual workload to meet tight deadlines and
conflicting priorities.
Desirable
1. Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
2. Knowledge or experience in water resource management.
3. NT driver license or ability to obtain and ability to travel if required.
