Primary objective
This position provides a high level of administrative and financial management support to schools across the NT. This includes the
engagement and payment of school body staff, high level of financial processing and reconciliations, budget development and
monitoring.
Context statement
The School Resources Improvement and Services team are responsible for identifying, developing, delivering, and monitoring
strategies to improve the financial management capacity and governance frameworks of government schools. The team’s clients
include, but are not limited to, principals and administration staff of government schools, corporate staff, and related external
stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Effectively manage all of the accounting, budgeting and financial processes and records within the school remotely in
accordance with departmental procedures and policies.
2. Provide accurate financial reports, information, and advice on school financial matters to the remote School Principal, School
Councils, staff, parents, and external agencies.
3. Where applicable, provide financial support and training to administrative staff based at the remote school.
4. Ensure the School Council’s responsibilities as an employer are met, including payment of salaries and wages, Goods and
Services Tax, PAYG and Superannuation.
5. Assist in the development and administration of school policies and procedures relevant to the finance function of the remote
school.
6. Prepare and supervise contracts for the development and maintenance of school facilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and skills to successfully undertake accounting, budgeting,
2. and financial processes.
3. Demonstrated ability or capacity to learn computer applications such as Excel, File Maker Pro, on-line banking, payroll
management and computerised financial accounting systems including CiAnywhere.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in administrative support, records management, human resource management,
financial management, procurement, and auditing.
5. Proven ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, school councils, and the wider community in a
multi-cultural setting.
6. Demonstrated experience organising and prioritising workloads, meeting deadlines, problem solving and working under
pressure.
Desirable
1. Qualification in Business or Accounting.
2. Experience using Ci Anywhere
• This position will require travel to remote school communities by light aircraft and/or 4WD as required.
- The successful applicant must have no significant criminal record confirmed by a Police Criminal History check and have, or
be in the process of obtaining, a current Working with Children Card and current First Aid Certificate.
