Primary objective
Provide a high-level specialist technical support service and advice in telecommunications, mission-critical radio,
and specialist electronic services to frontline operational members and civilian employees for the NT Police and NT Fire and
Emergency Service. CESS also supports both agencies, NT Government, federal and state agencies in times of natural and
manmade disasters, recovery and deployment in response to operations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective technical support to ensure projects, routine maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner.
2. Repair, maintain, calibrate and service communications and electronic equipment and systems. Systems include P25
digital radio, satellite communications, microwave, digital link equipment, paging, road safety equipment, building and
custody CCTV cell monitoring, access control systems and electronic record of interview devices.
3. Provide technical advice on communications and electronic equipment and systems.
4. Provide delivery of communications and electronic services in urban and remote areas.
5. Ability to initiate, develop and/or update relevant documentation and electronic record holdings.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Associate Diploma in Electronics and Communications, and/or a Trade Certificate Electronics or Radio Fitter, Certificate
IV in Electro Technology or equivalent.
2. Extensive experience in maintenance and fault diagnostics of radio communications and complex electronic equipment.
3. High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to
non-specialist audiences.
4. Knowledge and application of applicable National/Australian Standards and legislative requirements.
5. Well-developed strategic, conceptual, analytical and innovative skills to research and report on creative solutions.
6. Ability to display initiative and supervise small teams to achieve outcomes and be self-motivated and self-managing with
limited direction.
7. This position requires travel with expectations for one or more overnight stays to sites across the NT on short notice,
possess an NT driver’s licence and travel by aeroplane or helicopter. After an appropriate training period,
this position will be rostered on-call for a week at a time 24/7.
Desirable
1. Qualifications or experience in Motorola digital radio equipment and programming.
2. Demonstrated experience in the maintenance, calibration and servicing of evidentiary breath analysers, speed detection
devices, security access systems, CCTV and electronic recording of interview systems.
