Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The NDIA’s Budget Management Strategy Support Branch is seeking an APS5 Finance Officer to join its team. The Branch sits within the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Division and is responsible for delivering the agency’s internal and external budgets and costings, developing and managing the agency’s budget strategy to seek central agency support for investment in the agency and the scheme, management reporting and the provision of finance business partnering services to the agency.
The Budget Strategy Team is responsible for shaping the agency’s budget strategy and associated documents. The team also coordinates and leads the agency’s liaison with the Department of Health, central and other Commonwealth agencies on budget-related matters.

Where you can add value

The APS5 Finance Officer will work as part of a small team, produce high quality written and analytical work to support the team and through them the staff of the broader agency in developing Commonwealth Budget proposals and costings:

  • Using their understanding of Microsoft Excel, develop and maintain the agency’s costings template.
  • Using their knowledge of Microsoft Word, develop and maintain the agency’s costings justifications.
  • Using their knowledge of financial frameworks, provide high quality written and oral advice.
  • Liaison and communication across the agency and beyond.
  • Maintenance of team material, including templates, operating procedures, user guides, registers, folders and sharepoint information.
  • Drafting of communications, cross-branch and cross-division liaison and stakeholder engagements.

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:
  • They will have demonstrated Government budget experience (either or both external or internal budget) and knowledge of the Australian Government budget processes.
  • They will have good communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be working a variety of stakeholders. They will be able to tailor communication to target audiences.
  • They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with financial systems such as SAP, is desirable.
  • Qualifications or relevant experience in accounting, commerce, business and/or finance are desirable but not essential, as is membership of a professional body.

While these roles are ideally performed from Deakin – ACT, Surry Hills – NSW, Brisbane - QLD, Robina - QLD, Richmond - VIC & Geelong - VIC, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
