About the role

This is an exciting newly created ongoing opportunity to allow you to take the lead with your governance experience and an opportunity to further develop the new role.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer within the Information Security & Governance team. As a strong communicator, you work in close partnership with teams across Business Performance and the broader business to improve the quality, integrity, and use of data and records across the organisation.

As the Data & Records Governance Lead, you play a critical role in embedding data governance and records management practices and culture across VMIA. You are accountable for ensuring that VMIA's data assets and records are well governed, high quality, secure, and comply with relevant legislative, regulatory, and organisational standards.


Key responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain VMIA's Data Governance Framework aligned with DAMA-DMBOK Framework.
  • Lead and champion data and records governance across VMIA with your strong stakeholder management approach and strategic thinking.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and management of data and records management risks across the organisation, ensuring compliance with Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), Public Records Act 1974 (Vic), Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and VMIA's Risk Management Framework. Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to develop and implement remediation plans that address gaps, strengthen controls, and enhance the organisation's data and records governance maturity.
  • Manage our recordkeeping systems (SharePoint, OpenText Content Manager and physical record systems) and records management policies and procedures.

Who you work with

  • Internal: Data & Analytics, Information Security, IT Services Delivery, Finance, Risk & Compliance, Data Owners & Stewards.
  • External: Victorian Government departments and agencies, auditors and risk advisory partners, vendors and suppliers.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data, governance, data management, or information and records management.
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK).
  • Experience with data governance and the proven ability to lead change initiatives and uplift data culture.
  • Understanding of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), Public Records Act 1974 (Vic) and Health Records Act 2001 (Vic).
  • Experience with data governance and metadata tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview).

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline - Records, Data or Information Management, Data Science or related field.
  • Certification such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).

Salary Information

At VMIA, we offer competitive salaries based on the role's classification and your skills and experience. Typically, new employees start at the minimum of the salary range, however, consideration may be given to starting above the minimum of the band should you demonstrate extensive experience in a similar role or possess unique and desirable skills and capabilities required to perform the role.
