About Mitchell Institute:

The Mitchell Institute is a policy think tank and research centre based at Victoria University. The Institute has a particular focus on education policy, systems, and place. We propose and advocate for improved evidence-based policy that supports an equitable, high-quality education system that addresses systemic disadvantage and supports lifelong learning.

About the Role:

The Mitchell Institute is seeking a Policy Fellow to join our dynamic team and help tackle Australia’s most pressing education challenges.

As a key member of a small, agile team, you’ll lead and contribute to strategic projects that generate fresh thinking and deliver practical, evidence-informed solutions across the education continuum—from early childhood to higher education and vocational training.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Conduct rigorous policy and research analysis of education systems
  • Produce high-impact written outputs including reports, briefs, and media pieces
  • Represent the Institute as a public-facing spokesperson
  • Engage with stakeholders and represent the Institute at forums and national conferences

This position reports to the Director of the Peter Noonan Policy Impact Program and offers a unique opportunity to influence education reform at a national level.

This is a 2-year fixed term position (36.75 hours per week) at the HEP Level 9 classification and the salary range is $128,446 per annum - $133,636 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation contribution.
