Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for improving safety outcomes? Join our high-performing team and lead critical operational advisory work supporting Queensland's inspectorate workforce.

As the Principal Advisor, Inspectorate Policy and Support, you'll lead the development and review of high-level operational procedures and provide expert advice across inspectorate services. Your work will help ensure that compliance and enforcement activities undertaken by the Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) are underpinned by strong, coordinated, and legally sound positions and frameworks.

Working within the Work and Electrical Safety Policy unit, you'll collaborate across internal stakeholders including Compliance and Field Services, Electrical Safety Office, and Specialised Health and Safety Services to ensure operational policy aligns with emerging priorities and legislative requirements.

You'll report to the Manager, Inspectorate Policy and Support, and play a key role in shaping the way OIR supports its inspectorate workforce.

Please note Inspectorate Policy and Support is also advertising for an AO6 Senior Advisor role.

Key responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of high-quality, consistent, and transparent inspectorate policies and procedures.
Provide expert operational advice and guidance in a complex regulatory environment.
Analyse and interpret WHS and electrical safety legislation to inform sound decision making.
Prepare complex correspondence and submissions in response to ministerial and operational matters.
Lead and contribute to strategic projects and initiatives.
Support and mentor team members while promoting ethical behaviour and inclusive workplace culture.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a values-driven professional with:
An understanding of the regulatory environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational procedures.
High-level written communication and drafting skills.
Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Knowledge and experience in workplace or electrical safety, policy, or law will be highly regarded.

Your personal qualities, alignment with the OIR Capability Framework, and your potential to contribute to a diverse, respectful and inclusive workplace will also be key considerations.

There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however, qualifications or experience in work health and safety, law, or policy development are desirable.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
