Your role

Homes NSW, a division of the Department of Communities and Justice, is seeking a dedicated Work Health and Safety professional to support the safety and wellbeing of our staff and the communities we serve. Sitting within the Office of the Executive Director, Business Support Team, this role plays a vital part in delivering consistent, high quality WHS and Wellbeing support across the District.

You will provide expert guidance to managers and staff on WHS legislation, risk management, injury claims, and return to work processes. Your work will contribute to building a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures, and supporting positive outcomes for employees.

What you’ll do

As part of the Office of Executive Director, Business Support Team for Housing Services you’ll play a key role in providing expert support in Work Health and Safety (WHS), risk, and injury management.

Your role will focus on:

  • Offering timely, practical advice to district managers and staff to ensure compliance with WHS legislation and departmental policies.
  • Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the DCJ Safety Management System (SMS), promoting consistent use of tools and procedures.
  • Assisting with complex or sensitive workers’ compensation claims, helping managers meet their return-to-work and injury management obligations.
  • Promoting a proactive safety culture by maintaining divisional risk profiles, conducting risk assessments, and supporting control measures.
  • Contributing to WHS audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and shared.
  • Monitoring WHS and injury management data, identifying trends, and preparing reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Delivering or supporting WHS training and developing resources to build workforce capability and encourage positive safety behaviours.
  • Participate in health and safety committees and establish collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs), and external partners such as SafeWork NSW and iCare to support effective WHS and injury management outcomes.

What we’re looking for

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of WHS related legislation and applicable Codes of Practice and Standards.
  • Relevant Safe Work NSW qualifications or willingness to complete with sound knowledge of Workers Compensation and Safe Work Workers Compensation Guidelines.
  • Occupational Health and Safety qualifications in a relevant field and/ or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience working in a professional occupational health and safety environment.
  • A willingness to travel statewide on an ADHOC basis.
