- Permanent Part-time, 20 hours per fortnight
- Salary Classification: Staff Specialist Level 1- Level 5 (Level election optional). Level 1 range from $262,376-$323,777 pa (Pro rata) plus superannuation and salary packaging.

About the role
The Staff Specialist is responsible for providing telephone and, if necessary, direct clinical advice on the assessment and management of admissions to the Calvary Mater Newcastle involving drug overdose (deliberate self-poisoning or unintentional), other toxicity and envenomation’s. To provide a consultative service in Clinical Toxicology through the Hunter Area Toxicology Service roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Timely assessment of patients in accordance with documented triage or urgency criteria.
- Provide clinical services within the operational procedures and workflows of the department.
- Impeccable assessment of patient needs participation in collaborative management planning.
- The Specialist will participate in the Department of Clinical Toxicology on-call roster covering after hours and weekend on-call.
- Timely, accurate and relevant documentation of clinical activity, care plans and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
What you bring
- Primary medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a Fellowship of an Australasian body in General Medicine or Clinical Pharmacology/Toxicology, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care or other specialist recognition as indicated in the NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Staff Specialist Agreement.
- Post-Fellowship training in Clinical Toxicology recognised by the National Poisons Information Centre network.
- Demonstrated high level clinical assessment, communication and organisational skills, applicable in the care of patients and carers with complex needs.
- Demonstrated capacity to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a culture of respectful collaboration.
