Primary objective
As part of the Wellbeing and Inclusion team under the direction of the Senior Teacher Inclusion and Wellbeing work collaboratively
with classroom and preschool teachers with the teaching, care, and management of students with additional needs through
contributing to the planning and implementation of individualised and small group programs and provide feedback.
Context statement
Sadadeen Primary School is a unique urban primary school catering for students from Preschool to Year 6. 95% of the students
who attend Sadadeen are Aboriginal, with many language groups represented. Positive engagement of student learning is enhanced
by a focus on the creative arts, child-centred practice across the school and working actively with our school community and
relevant agencies in the wider community to deliver programs supporting the wellbeing of our students. Sadadeen School supports
cultural diversity and understanding. Sadadeen school encompasses the primary school, two preschools, one onsite and one offsite
and the KITES program.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Actively participate as a team member in the planning, preparation, implementation, and assessment of individualised
educational programs and undertake instructional tasks as required in classroom activities, outdoor activities, and excursions.
Assist with the supervision of students at recess and lunch as required.
2. Assist with personal hygiene and first aid as necessary to ensure the well-being of students.
3. Develop and effectively maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disability, families, work colleagues and
stakeholders whilst maintaining confidentiality.
4. Assist with the physical, social, l e a r n i n g , cultural, and emotional well- being and safety of students and support students
with effective behaviour management strategies.
5. Initiate, prioritise and perform work tasks under limited supervision and in a reliable manner, whilst adhering to school and DET
policies in an environment of change and pressure, where student and staff safety are paramount.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to communicate effectively using various communication strategies and appropriate interpersonal skills with
children who have a range of learning needs.
2. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in teams and communicating effectively to support productive relationships
with families and other stakeholders.
3. Recent demonstrated experience successfully implementing educational programs for students who have learning needs,
multiple needs, challenging behaviours and who have deficits in adaptive functioning in areas such as communication,
social/interpersonal skills, and functional academic skills.
4. Ability to gain a First Aid Certificate.
