Primary objective
To accurately maintain SAMS (Student Administration Management System), Compass electronic records and SRFs (Student
Records Files). To initiate and maintain effective communication links between Sanderson Middle School and students,
parents/carers/families; partner primary schools; staff and relevant service agencies to achieve effective educational outcomes for
students.
Context statement
Sanderson Middle School is an established school which has an enrolment of 350 students with an Indigenous cohort of
approximately 50%. Staff are collaborative and supportive of the local community, working in partnership with parents and other
community organisations. The school enrols Years 7, 8 and 9 students from the suburbs of Anula, Karama, Malak, Northlakes and
Wulagi, but many students (including Intensive English students) come from further afield.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure timely and accurate management of school data and accurate maintenance of all manual and electronic student records
including enrolments, withdrawals, data entry, data retrieval, attendance and report preparation for relevant internal purposes
and external agencies.
2. Establish and promote rapport between the school and students, parents/carers/families; partner primary schools; staff and
relevant service agencies regarding student wellbeing and attendance to maintain accurate attendance records and files.
3. Support members of the wellbeing and attendance teams in cases involving students experiencing difficulty with aspects of
their schooling, to assist families to resolve those difficulties.
4. Liaise with external support agencies both Northern Territory and Commonwealth Government Departments to ensure
students and families receive proper assistance and prepare relevant reports detailing students’ situations and remedial action
taken for Territory Families, Juvenile Justice and Police as directed.
5. Assist the Business Manager with the management of the front office and participate as an active member of the school’s
Administrative, Wellbeing and Attendance Teams.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience and skill in working with young people and their families in a supportive educational environment,
using initiative, sound judgement, confidentiality, and security.
2. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people
from diverse cultures - students, families, teaching staff, the public, peers and other department officers, and work well with a
wide range of people with tact and discretion.
3. Demonstrated strong work ethic and well-developed organisational skills that deliver excellent time management under
pressure; task prioritisation and completion within required timeframes/deadlines; and attention to detail in a middle school
organisational environment.
4. Extensive experience in managing information and data in various systems such as SAMS and Compass.
5. Demonstrated high level administrative, organisational and interpersonal skills and abilities in working collaboratively with
others in team environments.
Desirable
1. Well-developed knowledge of education and welfare support systems and providers.
2. A working knowledge of policy and procedure in the areas of education and welfare.
